Cockroach Control & Extermination

Florida's warm, humid climate makes it the cockroach capital of the U.S. German roaches multiply explosively in kitchens and bathrooms, while American cockroaches (palmetto bugs) enter from outdoors year-round. Professional treatment is the only reliable solution — and we've built a protocol that actually eliminates them for good.

Why Florida Has the Worst Roach Problem

No state in the continental U.S. has a worse cockroach problem than Florida. The combination of subtropical heat, year-round humidity, and dense urban environments creates ideal breeding conditions for every roach species — indoors and out. Here's what you're actually dealing with:

  • German Roaches Are the #1 Indoor Pest in America The German cockroach is not just common — it is the most prolific cockroach species on the planet. A single female produces up to 8 egg cases in her lifetime, each containing 30 to 40 nymphs. A small infestation can explode to thousands within weeks.
  • They Contaminate Food and Trigger Asthma Cockroach droppings, shed skins, and saliva are potent allergens. Studies link cockroach exposure to increased asthma attacks, especially in children. They also carry Salmonella, E. coli, and other pathogens, contaminating any surface they contact.
  • Palmetto Bugs Enter From Outdoors — Constantly American cockroaches (palmetto bugs) live in trees, sewer systems, and mulch. Florida's rainfall drives them indoors regularly through gap around pipes, drains, doors, and vents. Without perimeter treatment and sealing, re-entry never stops.
  • DIY Products Fail Against Established Colonies Over-the-counter sprays kill contact roaches but repel survivors deeper into harborage, scatter the colony, and accelerate resistance development. Gel bait, insect growth regulators, and HEPA vacuuming — properly deployed by professionals — are the only tools that eliminate the whole colony.
  • Multi-Family Properties Face Constant Re-Infestation In condos and apartments, German roaches migrate freely between units through shared wall voids, plumbing chases, and utility corridors. Even a perfectly treated unit can be re-infested by neighbors within weeks without ongoing prevention.

Why store-bought sprays fail: Repellent sprays cause colony fragmentation — roaches scatter to new harborage areas, making them harder to find and eliminate. Gel bait works by letting roaches carry the toxicant back to the nest, eliminating hidden populations. It's the difference between killing the roaches you see and eliminating the colony you don't.

Our protocol is designed to eliminate the whole colony, not just the ones you see.

Types of Cockroaches We Eliminate

Florida hosts multiple cockroach species, each requiring a tailored treatment approach. We identify exactly what you're dealing with before we treat.

German Cockroach
Blattella germanica — The Hardest to Eliminate

Small at just ½ inch, light brown with two dark stripes behind the head. Found almost exclusively indoors — in kitchens, bathrooms, and behind appliances. Reproduces explosively: a single egg case hatches 30 to 40 nymphs, and the entire life cycle takes only 60 days. One female can produce hundreds of offspring in her lifetime. Requires an aggressive, multi-visit treatment protocol.

American Cockroach
Periplaneta americana — The Palmetto Bug

Florida's iconic "palmetto bug" — large at 1.5 to 2 inches, reddish-brown with a yellowish figure-eight pattern behind the head. They fly, especially in warm weather. Primarily an outdoor species living in trees, sewer systems, and mulch beds, entering homes through gaps around pipes, drains, and under doors — especially after rain. Perimeter treatment and exclusion work are key.

Other Florida Species
Asian, Smoky Brown & Australian Cockroaches

Florida's tropical climate hosts several additional species: Asian cockroaches look nearly identical to German roaches but are attracted to light and fly freely; smoky brown cockroaches (dark mahogany, 1.5 inches) live in attics and outdoor trees; and Australian cockroaches (reddish-brown with yellow markings) are common in tropical South Florida. All are treated with species-appropriate protocols.

Our Cockroach Treatment Protocol

A science-based, multi-step approach designed to eliminate the whole colony — not just the cockroaches you can see.

01

Inspection & Species Identification

We begin with a thorough inspection — identifying the species present, locating harborage areas (where roaches hide and breed), mapping entry points, and assessing infestation severity. This is not optional; treatment without a proper inspection is guesswork. German roaches and palmetto bugs require completely different protocols.

Species ID Harborage mapping Entry point assessment
02

HEPA Vacuuming — Immediate Impact

Before any chemical application, we use commercial HEPA vacuuming to physically remove visible cockroaches, egg cases (oothecae), and debris from harborage areas. This immediately reduces the active population and removes egg cases that would otherwise hatch resistant nymphs. It also removes repellent chemical residues that would interfere with gel bait acceptance.

Targeted Treatment Application

We deploy a combination of professional tools tailored to the infestation: gel bait placed in cracks and crevices where roaches travel; insect monitors (glue traps) to track population decline; crack-and-crevice spray for harborage areas; and IGR (insect growth regulators) that prevent nymphs from reaching reproductive maturity — breaking the reproductive cycle at its source.

Follow-Up & Prevention

German roach elimination requires patience. Treatments are repeated every 7 to 10 days to catch newly hatched nymphs before they reach reproductive maturity. Most infestations are controlled within 4 to 6 weeks; severe cases may take 2 to 3 months. After elimination, we transition to an ongoing monthly or bi-monthly maintenance plan to intercept any re-introduction before it becomes a new infestation.

Signs of a Cockroach Infestation

Cockroaches are nocturnal and expert hiders. By the time you see one, there are likely hundreds more you don't. Watch for these warning signs.

Droppings Small dark specks resembling black pepper or coffee grounds — found in drawers, behind appliances, and under sinks. German roach droppings are tiny; American roach droppings are larger with blunt ends.
Musty, Oily Odor A heavy cockroach infestation produces a distinct musty, oily or "greasy" smell — particularly noticeable in kitchens, bathrooms, and behind appliances. If you smell something unusual that you can't identify, it's worth investigating.
Egg Cases (Oothecae) Brown, capsule-shaped egg cases tucked into cabinet corners, behind the refrigerator, or under appliances. A German roach egg case is about 1/4 inch long; one case = 30 to 40 future roaches. Finding even one case indicates an established breeding population.
Daytime Sightings Cockroaches are strictly nocturnal. Seeing them during the day is a serious red flag — it means the harborage areas are so overcrowded that individuals are being forced out into the open. Daytime sightings suggest a large, established infestation requiring immediate professional attention.
Shed Skins Cockroaches molt 6 to 7 times before reaching adulthood, leaving behind translucent shed skins (exuviae) near food sources, in cabinet corners, and behind appliances. Finding multiple shed skins indicates a population that has been active and growing for some time.
Smear Marks Dark, irregular smear marks along baseboards, walls, or countertops where cockroaches travel. These are produced when roaches crawl over surfaces while carrying feces and oils on their bodies — a clear indicator of active, high-traffic cockroach pathways.

Roach Control That Actually Works

Most pest control companies spray a repellent product and leave. We take a fundamentally different approach — one built around eliminating the colony, not just the cockroaches you can see right now.

We Inspect Before We Treat

Every service starts with a proper inspection. We identify the species, map harborage areas, and locate entry points before applying a single product. Treatment without inspection is guesswork — guesswork doesn't eliminate cockroach colonies.

Professional Tools — Not Store Shelves

We use commercial-grade gel baits, insect growth regulators, and HEPA vacuuming equipment that are not available to the public. These are the tools that actually eliminate German roach colonies — the same protocol used in the most severe commercial infestations.

We Return Until It's Done

German roach elimination requires multiple visits. We schedule follow-up treatments every 7 to 10 days and monitor population decline using glue traps. We don't consider the job finished until your monitors show a clear, sustained decline. No hidden fees, no surprises.

Safe for Your Family and Pets

Gel bait — our primary German roach tool — is applied in tiny amounts inside enclosed spaces where children and pets cannot reach. We use only EPA-approved products and will walk you through any preparation needed before your service. No need to vacate for extended periods.

Cockroach Control — Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to the most common questions about our cockroach extermination service in South Florida.

German cockroaches are small (about ½ inch), light brown with two dark stripes, and are almost exclusively found indoors — especially in kitchens and bathrooms. They reproduce explosively, with a single egg case holding 30 to 40 nymphs, and represent a true infestation requiring professional treatment. Palmetto bugs (American cockroaches) are much larger — 1.5 to 2 inches — reddish-brown, and primarily live outdoors in trees, sewer systems, and mulch beds. They enter homes through gaps and drains, especially after rain. While alarming, a palmetto bug encounter is usually an entry problem, not a full infestation. Both require different treatment approaches, which is why proper identification at the start of every service matters.
The most common signs include: small dark droppings resembling black pepper or coffee grounds (found in drawers, under sinks, and behind appliances); a musty, oily odor in the kitchen or bathroom; egg cases (oothecae) — small brown capsules — in cabinet corners or behind the refrigerator; shed cockroach skins near food sources; and smear marks along walls or countertops. The most serious sign is seeing cockroaches during daylight hours. Roaches are nocturnal, so daytime sightings mean the colony is so large it is being forced out of its hiding areas. If you're seeing roaches during the day, call us immediately.
Yes. We use only EPA-approved, professional-grade products. Gel baits — our primary German roach treatment — are applied in tiny amounts inside cracks, crevices, and enclosed spaces that children and pets cannot reach. For treated interior surfaces, we typically ask that pets and children stay clear of treated areas for 20 to 30 minutes while products dry. We will walk you through any specific preparation steps needed at the time of your service, and we offer organic product options for clients who prefer a fully natural approach.
Results depend on the species and infestation severity. For palmetto bugs and lighter infestations, you should see a significant reduction within a few days of the first treatment. German cockroach infestations require more time — treatments are repeated every 7 to 10 days, with most infestations under control within 4 to 6 weeks. Severe or long-standing German roach colonies may take 2 to 3 months to fully eliminate. During that period, you will see declining cockroach activity as the colony collapses — we track this using glue monitors. After elimination, an ongoing maintenance plan prevents re-infestation.
Cockroaches return for several reasons: incomplete elimination of the original colony (egg cases are highly resistant to standard sprays and must be specifically targeted); re-introduction through infested groceries or second-hand items; migration from neighboring units through shared wall voids or plumbing chases; and conducive conditions like food residue, moisture, or clutter. In multi-family housing, even a fully treated unit can be re-infested by neighbors within weeks. In Florida's climate, year-round conditions support constant re-pressure. This is why ongoing prevention plans are far more effective — and cost-efficient — than repeated one-time treatments.
We offer both. For palmetto bug entry issues or isolated incidents, a targeted one-time treatment may resolve the problem. However, German cockroach infestations always require a multi-visit treatment protocol — typically 3 to 5 visits spaced 7 to 10 days apart — because the reproductive cycle means new nymphs hatch after each treatment. After full elimination, a monthly or bi-monthly maintenance plan is the most reliable way to prevent re-infestation in Florida's climate. We will assess your specific situation on the first visit and recommend the right approach — no pressure, just an honest recommendation.
